A custom restoration that fully covers a damaged or weakened tooth, restoring its size, shape, strength, and appearance.
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped cap that is permanently bonded over a tooth, replacing the visible structure top-to-gumline when a filling alone is not enough to repair the damage. Crowns are used after large fractures, extensive decay, root canal therapy, or to top a single dental implant. Dr. Jill Rowland fabricates each crown to match the shade and contour of the surrounding teeth, working with a trusted lab on the final restoration.
Indications include:
A tooth with a fracture or large old filling that has weakened it
A tooth that has had root canal therapy and now needs structural protection
Severe decay that does not leave enough sound tooth for a filling
A misshapen or badly discolored tooth that cannot be addressed with a veneer
Topping a dental implant or anchoring a bridge
Crown placement typically spans two visits. At the first appointment Dr. Rowland numbs the tooth (sedation is available for patients who would prefer it), removes the damaged structure, and shapes what remains so the crown can seat over it. A digital or traditional impression goes to the lab, and a temporary crown protects the prep in the meantime. At the second visit, the permanent crown is checked for fit, bite, and shade, then bonded into place.
A well-made, well-cared-for crown lasts many years. Treat it like a natural tooth: brush, floss, attend cleanings at Diamond Dentistry, and avoid the things that put any restoration at risk — chewing ice, biting fingernails or pen caps, untreated grinding. If bruxism is a factor, Dr. Rowland will recommend a night guard alongside the crown.
A coordinated plan that rebuilds health, function, and appearance across multiple teeth using crowns, bridges, implants, dentures, or grafts as needed.
A full-arch tooth replacement supported by roughly four implants per arch — a fixed alternative to a traditional removable denture.
Titanium posts placed in the jawbone to replace missing tooth roots, supporting a custom crown, bridge, or denture for a stable, long-term result.
